I have taken a quick look at the ebook and will get back to reading it, it has useful content.

Images, favicons and some text

When searching for images for my blogs I use Flickr Creative Commons (free if source is given) and iStockphoto where you buy the right to use images.

A favicon (also known as a website icon, shortcut icon, url icon, or bookmark icon) is a 16×16 pixel square icon associated with a particular website or webpage. I use FavIcon from Pics to create my favicons, the service is free and easy to use.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Great when you are more focused on looks than text content andd simply want “filler text” for testing something.

Life is back

I use iStockphoto for images and get their Tip of the Week. Today it says:

LIFE.com lets you wander through the legendary LIFE and Getty archives, and with more than 3,000 new photos added every day, it also gives you the best pictures of people and places shaping our world.

I have taken a look at the new LIFE – Your World in Pictures and it looks very promising.

Q10 text editor

Maki, @doshdosh, tweeted about Q10 text editor. It’s freeware and Q10 says it is “a simple but powerful text editor designed and built with writers in mind”.

There are several interesting features but what hooked me is this:

Perfectly portable. A single self-contained executable file. That’s all. Easy to use with a pendrive, so you can carry your writing environment with you everywhere.

Update April 11,2009.
I have installed and tested Q10. It is a bit odd (to me) to have a totally blank screen without any visible distractions. I like the typewriter sound when writing, getting an audio feedback is actually great.

Q10 is a plain but powerful text editor. No formating can be done, all you can do is write which is the sole purpose of this software. Q10 creates txt-files, import them into your word processor of choice and do the formatting there.

You can have an information bar that shows current number of words, pages, lines, paragraphs and characters. Quite useful in order to see your writing progress.

In summary – I like Q10 and will use it when I need to focus on my writing.

Earth Hour 2009

The Earth Hour is 8:30PM local time, wherever you live on planet earth. Saturday 28 March 2009. Do your part – switch of the lights during that hour!

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.
