WorkRave – take breaks from computer

Workrave is a free program that assists in the recovery and prevention of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). The program allows you to set alerts for micro-pauses, rest breaks and you can set your daily limit.

Under Spread the word are leaflets in English, Dutch, German, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Italian, Swedish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Turkish and Greek that explains more.

Workrave continously monitors your keyboard and mouse activity. Hence if you leave your computer running while you are at a meeting, Workrave will notice that you are taking a natural break from the computer.

WorkRave is a great tool that gently reminds you of taking breaks in order to rest at the intervals you want. I have set up WorkRave for micro-pauses (30 seconds) after 25 minutes and rest breaks (3 minutes) after 60 minutes. The daily limit is something I don’t use.

WorkRave is for Windows and Linux but Lifehacker links to a Mac alternative in Download of the Day: WorkRave (Windows/Linux).
